Hafa Adai!
Hello! My name is Emily (she/they) and I am a queer, neurodivergent & disabled, Chamorro & white woman. I'm an LPC candidate working at the Oklahoma Sex & Relationship Institute in Edmond, OK. I received my master's degree in counseling in 2023 and am working towards becoming a licensed professional counselor.
My bachelor's is in human development and family science from the University of North Texas. I've been working with clients for a handful of years, and I have found my passion lies in helping folks unpack past trauma, stand in their authenticity, and grow confidence in their relationships with themselves and others.
Counseling with Emily
I am a survivor who knows the difficulty in finding a therapist who feels safe when you've been hurt before. I have a deep understanding of the harm that can come from power imbalances between clients and their providers, and I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you can exist authentically without fear of judgement.
Clients of all backgrounds and walks of life are welcome in my office. My practice is trauma-informed, BIPOC-friendly, inclusive of disabilities, neurodivergence-affirming, kink-aware, nonmonogamy-friendly, and sex-worker allied. I invite clients to be as comfortable as possible while in my office - feel free to kick off your shoes, bring a blanket or a stuffed animal! Cursing is always allowed and no topic is off limits. You're welcome to be you.
I believe everyone – regardless of circumstance – deserves fulfilling relationships and to experience life to the fullest, and I believe that access to safe and affirming healthcare should be a right and not a privilege. My aim is to make mental health care accessible to those who've faced barriers seeking help.
My approach is flexible, human, and transparent. I use a non-pathologizing lens that focuses on strengths, rather than deficits, and considers the intersections of your identity and your unique experience. Life is fucking hard sometimes! We all deserve space to be human. My hope is help you to better support yourself in times of need and feel more confident in your true self.
"Everybody asks why I started at the end and working back to the beginning. The reason is simple:
I couldn't understand the beginning until I had reached the end."
